We left Victoria early the next morning and drove upwards towards Tofino. Our first stop was at Cathedral Grove - about 2 hours into the journey. It felt a bit like a rainforest and was eerily beautiful. It had gigantic trees (up to 76m tall)! We met a really lovely volunteer guide here who said if we went to Victoria Quay in Port Alberni for 1pm we might see a bear eating some salmon - so we went - I'm not sure if he was joking - but we sat and watched, but unfortunately no hungry bear came forward 🙂 Port Alberni was a lovely stop, however, and we had a good lunch at 'All Mex'd Up'
From Port Alberni we drove an impressively windy highway before reaching the Pacific Rim National Park. Once there we went and did a short walk to South Beach where there was a rope swing and Tom had a paddle in the cold ocean! We also visited Florencia Bay Beach before checking into our own beach hut at North Chesterman's Beach just outside Tofino town.
We went into Tofino that evening using the free shuttle bus and had a meal and drinks at the really nice restaurant and bar, Wolf in the Fog.
