On route to Skogar we travelled past countless glaciers looming in the distance and we spent an afternoon in the small town of Vik. The highlight of the town is the beautiful black sand beach with strange rock formations. Reynisdrangur which are believed to be where some trolls got caught in the sun! There are walks on the cliff above Vik to get amazing coastal views - one that is recommended is to the top of Reynisfjall. Past Vik's beach head to Reynisfjara which is another, bigger, blacksand beach with two rock formations that are worth visiting - some incredible basalt columns and a lovely arch!
We continued into Skogar and staying in Hotel Skogar which has the most incredible views overlooking Skogafoss waterfall. We wandered to the 62m high waterfall in the late afternoon. It is really incredible just getting to walk right up to the falls and getting really wet in the mist. You can then climb some steep steps alongside for views from above.
